Top masts, etc.93 viewsAll the spars and masts are now attached.
1037.JPG
Rigging the masts etc.39 viewsI slowly started the rigging at the centre of the mast, leaving the cords loose, so as to manouver them around to get other cords in their rightful place. Each one when attached was given a small dollop of thin super glue, which vanishes into the cord and is invisible.
Seventeenth Century Rigging by R C Anderson was most helpful.
1450.JPG
Rigging the spars etc.39 viewsThe same technique was used here again, start at the bottom and slowly work upwards, a book, Seventeenth Century Rigging by R C Anderson was most helpful.
1454.JPG
Attaching to the stays.37 viewsClose up of the work at the bottom, tying up the stays, again a small dollop of thin super glue, which vanishes into the cord and is invisible.
1455.JPG
Spar end.34 viewsThese cords have now made the whole upper model very much stronger, here yoou can see where the cord has been deliberatly wrapped around a few times, before a small tie knot and super glue finishes off.
1456.JPG
Most of the rigging has now been tied off.32 viewsA view from afar showing the rigging.
1457.JPG
Close up of the cords.35 viewsSee the small knots, also the first close up of the guns, these were made as model, one of the carriage and then the gun. Both models were made using wood and miliput. The barrel is a piece of dowelling shaped and given extra detail using miliput.
1470.JPG
Rear view of the rigging.37 viewsAlso showing the stern detail as it is nearly complete. Note how the rear or stern mast sails are now attached. Small holes drilled through the silk, and then tied off on the spars. Thin super glue to finish off.
1471.JPG
Sails.56 viewsThese are made of silk and are cut to shape, then sprayed with an acrylic primer grey. Over sprayed with white primer to give depth of colour and a slightly dirty look.
1472.JPG
Sails.31 viewsHere we have tied them off high so as to trim them into shape, whence we are happy with the shape, they can be lowered down and adjusted using the cords and tied off.
1473.JPG
Stern deck.33 viewsThe ship deck is becoming a lot more crowded, what with the guns and hatches, now all the sailing ropes criss crossing everywhere.
1481.JPG
Fully Rigged.44 viewsHere she looks fully rigged from the bow.
