Carribean Houses for Isla Negra - SSWG

SSWG

Southend & Shoeburyness Wargames Group

islabuild0.JPG
Stage two.24 viewsAs with our other buildings, the construction remains the same, although the texturing on these is different.
We spread tile adhesive on to the building and smoothed it, then added a fine sand. allow to dry and paint.
islabuild1.JPG
Extras, the window shutters.21 viewsThese are made out of balsa, and then wood stained and dry brushed, as with the doors.
The painting on the building as a whole is still only at the first stage.

islabuild2.JPG
Corner stones.21 viewsThese are made of miliput, just roll a blob on to the buiding, push into the texture, lightly water, to smooth. Then cut off the residuewith asharp knife, remembering to shape the edge of the stone for detail. This can only be accomplished one stone at a time per corner.
islabuild3.JPG
Timber Frames.20 viewsUse Miliput for the wood detail, roll into a sausage and push into the texture, then water to smooth, and then with a pallet knife square the surface. Then with a scapel cut the edges of the desired timber shape, then gently drag the scapel through the surface several times to create the wood grain. Press a cocktail stick into the Miliput to make the nails. Although recessed, then paint in a dark colour to show depth, which then looks as though they are proud.
islabuild4.JPG
The roof.21 viewsThese we made a mould years ago. Just pieces of card cut like tiles, cast in resin, then cut to size when warm with a mitre saw.
To complete the roof we then made a sausage out of Miliput. Lay along the ridge and shape with a little water and a palette knife. Then use a plastic ruler as a guide, cut down removing the surplus. With a scapel knife create individual tiles by gentle scoring.
islabuild5.JPG
Complete.23 viewsHere we see all the ridges, and corner stones finished.
Use Miliput sausage to create the window cills, as before.
islabuild6.JPG
Shrubbery, vines etc.30 viewsMake several sausages of various thicknesses, to make the vine. Same as before push firmly into the textured surface, then shape with palette knife, add additional branches. Trim off the surplus and gentle score with a scapel to create bark on the vine. Then use deco-fill blobs from a mastic gun for leaves, gentle use a wet paint brush to stipple the surface.
islabuild7.JPG
Twisted Vine in the market.29 viewsMarket cover for the central square, this is the same construction as the houses but with additional timber supports, balsa cut to size.
As with the previous picture, painting the leaves dark green and gently dry brushing lighter, then to cap it off, glue foilage to the painted leaves.
